Fine needle aspirate of a subcutaneous mass on the lateral thigh of a dog. The two panels are different fields from the same aspirate. The findings are consistent with soft tissue sarcoma and microfilaremia.
Fine-needle aspirate of aqueous humor from a geriatric dog with an intraocular mass. There are many black-grey melanin pigment granules free in the background and surrounding bright purple round nuclei from lysed cells. Normal aqueous humor is typically acellular, but may have a few melanin granules or melanin-pigmented cells. Instead, in this aspirate, the melanin was abundant, as were lysed melanocytes. Ocular melanoma was confirmed histopathologically.
